A New Business Incubation Center Opens in Port Moresby
The new multi-million kina business incubation center for Small to Medium Entrepreneurs at 6-mile in Port Moresby's North-East Electorate was officially opened.
Minister for National Planning and Monitoring, Rainbo Paita officially opened the SME facility on behalf of the Prime Minister who was not able to attend. yesterday.
NBC news observed, crowds gathered in numbers despite COVID-19 restrictions to witness the opening of the long-awaited newly built facility.
The facility which was completed in 2019 is now open for locals especially mothers and youths in Moresby North East to properly engage in SME and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) to sell their products and generate incomes to support their families.
Member for Moresby North-East John Kaupa during the launching said the market was for the mothers of 6-Mile area.
Minister for National Planning and Monitoring, Rainbo Paita who was there to officiate the event praised the local MP for setting up a market and business facility which will benefit the community.
The minister on-behalf of the Prime Minister announced that James Marape will make a payment of K3 million to the electorate to support SME programs rollout.
Marape made that K3 million commitment during the Moresby North East SME launch last year.
The National Gaming Control Board also gave K500,000.
Prior to that National Capital District Commission and the Office of the member for Moresby North-East had committed K2 million each to support the SME and MSMS in the district.
In total, K7 million will be made available for the rollout out of SME and MSME programs in the district.
The program initiated by the member of Moresby North-East, John Kaupa is aimed at assisting families who wish to take part in small businesses to earn income and better their lives.
