PNG PM Marape urges Provinces to step up on COIVD - 19 response

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister, James Marape, has called on provinces and districts to step up efforts in addressing and stopping the further spread of the coronavirus.

His calls come as more new infections are reported daily, with PNG’s total at 5,991 cases and 60 deaths.

He made the call at the APEC Haus yesterday, where he hosted the first of a series of monthly Governors Meeting to address the heightened COVID-19 situation.

Mr Marape appealed to all Governors through the Provincial Health Authorities to provide cost analysis on their needs to enable the National Control Centre to disburse funds and report accordingly.

He emphasized the need for the Governors to remind their people of the new Containment and Isolation Strategy to strictly enforce the ‘Niupela Pasin’ of Wearing Masks, Washing Hands, and Social Distancing.

He further stressed the importance of pursuing non-clinical practices to support on-going clinical efforts in the fight against COVID-19, including prevention of movements within and between provinces.

Mr. Marape appealed to all Governors through the Provincial Health Authorities to provide cost analysis on their needs to enable the Control Centre to disburse funds and report accordingly.
