Air Niugini Celebrates Success of Inaugural Emerging Leaders Program

 In a landmark achievement, sixty-one employees of Air Niugini, representing diverse departments within the airline, have triumphantly completed the first-ever Air Niugini Emerging Leaders’ Program. This significant milestone propels the graduates onto a trajectory of progress and career advancement within the esteemed airline.

The intensive 10-month program was meticulously designed to unlock the leadership potential inherent in the participating employees, both in their current roles and for future responsibilities. Featuring a blend of classroom instruction, personalized one-on-one coaching, and hands-on project execution aimed at strategic and cultural transformation, the program stands as a testament to Air Niugini's commitment to nurturing talent from within.

The brainchild behind this initiative is Air Niugini’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Gary Seddon, who spearheaded the endeavor upon assuming his role in March last year. Under his stewardship, considerable financial resources were allocated towards initiatives such as customer service training and leadership development, aligning with the overarching vision of the board to empower and equip staff with the requisite skills and expertise.

Speaking on the significance of the program, Mr. Seddon emphasized its alignment with the board's vision of fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. He stressed the imperative of succession planning, underscoring the need to identify and nurture future leaders within the organization.

Deputy Board Chairman, Mr. Anthony Seeto, extended the board's unwavering support to the graduates, commending their dedication in balancing work, studies, and family commitments throughout the program. He underscored the transformative impact of the program, equipping participants with the tools and strategies necessary to excel in leadership roles.

The graduation ceremony, graced by Board Directors Lady Aivu Tauvasa and Dame Monica Salter, celebrated the remarkable achievement of the graduates, with a noteworthy majority comprising female employees. Air Niugini's steadfast commitment to gender inclusivity was lauded as a beacon of progress.

Feedback from the graduates echoed a sentiment of newfound confidence and empowerment. Executive Chef Thomas Molean expressed renewed assurance in his decision-making abilities, while IT Projects and Strategy Manager Marisa Kuypers highlighted the program's role in fostering a collaborative environment conducive to addressing workplace challenges.

Notably, Nanoa Iogae, Fokker Fleet Maintenance Controller, was bestowed with the prestigious 'CEO's Prize for Leadership,' exemplifying the core values and leadership qualities emblematic of Air Niugini.

The success of Air Niugini’s Emerging Leaders Program underscores the airline's unwavering commitment to talent development and organizational excellence. In collaboration with RDL Management Consultants, renowned for their expertise in leadership development, Air Niugini is poised to continue nurturing a new generation of leaders. With the next cohort set to commence in April, and ongoing customer service training initiatives, the airline remains steadfast in its pursuit of excellence and innovation.
