Yesterday, the Minister for State Enterprises, Hon. William Duma, oversaw the signing of a contract worth PGK 260 million for the redevelopment of Kimbe Port. This milestone signals a major step forward in improving the port’s capacity.
The project, funded by the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP), was awarded by PNG Ports Corporation Ltd to Pacific Marine Group Pty Ltd. Construction is expected to begin soon and is scheduled for completion by 2026.
The redevelopment includes building a new wharf structure, demolishing the existing one, and conducting restoration work on revetment walls. This marks the first project under the AIFFP-funded Ports Infrastructure Investment Program.
Designed to maximize opportunities for local workers, the program also plans to invest in other major ports, including Oro Bay, Daru, Lae, and Kavieng. This initiative highlights Australia’s commitment to supporting PNG’s infrastructure and boosting its economic potential.
