PNG NRL Bid Equips Eastern Highlands Schools for Rugby League Growth
The PNG NRL Bid Pathway Program is making strides in supporting grassroots sports, delivering essential rugby league equipment to schools in the Eastern Highlands Province to help grow the game at the school level.
Sam Kenny, the Program Coordinator and manager of the Goroka-based academy team, led the distribution last Saturday at the National Sports Institute in Goroka. Schools received rugby balls, T-shirts, cones, and flash drives loaded with coaching materials designed to enhance student training and development.
Fifty items were handed over to eight schools currently taking part in the Eastern Highlands Schools League. Kenny confirmed that more schools will receive equipment packages in the coming weeks as the program continues to expand.
Kenny emphasized the importance of taking care of school sports resources, saying that nurturing small beginnings could lead to greater opportunities. He urged coaches, trainers, and team managers to be mindful custodians of the donated items.
League coordinator Sipa Osipa expressed appreciation for the support but appealed for wider coverage, pointing out that only six of the 19 participating schools had received supplies so far. He encouraged the PNG NRL Bid team to extend the initiative to all schools involved in the competition.
