PNG Politics : Sawang Forms New Party Following Resignation from People's First Party
Papua New Guinea Labour Minister and Raikos MP Kessy Sawang has reportedly launched a new political party, the People's Transformation Party, after formally parting ways with the People's First Party.
According to Solomon Nani, First Assistant Secretary to the Minister, Sawang officially resigned from her previous party before founding the new one, marking what some observers call a historic move by a female parliamentarian in PNG.
The newly established party is already taking steps to enter the political arena, announcing two candidates to contest in the Usino-Bundi and Kabwun Open by-elections.
Party officials revealed that the People's Transformation Party has identified seven key policies it intends to pursue, forming the foundation of its political agenda.
Among its priorities are education, health, spiritual wellness, agriculture, fisheries, law and order, and the promotion of tourism and the environment.
Sawang's decision has been described by political commentators as a bold initiative that could reshape the country's political landscape, especially for female representation.
