Papua New Guineans now have increased opportunities to migrate to Australia under the Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV) program, with the Australian Government announcing the opening of its second ballot for the 2025–26 period.

More Pathways to Australia Open for PNG Nationals Under PEV Scheme

Australia's Department of Home Affairs confirmed that registration for the new ballot is open, providing eligible PNG citizens a chance to apply for permanent residency through the PEV. The second ballot includes a total of 3,000 places allocated to 15 eligible Pacific countries and Timor-Leste, with PNG being one of the priority nations.

This latest round expands the opportunity for skilled and community-connected individuals and their families to live and work in Australia. Applicants must meet certain conditions, including being aged between 18 and 45, having a formal job offer in Australia, and passing health, character, and English assessments.

In a notable development, Samoa and Kiribati have now joined the PEV program for the first time, bringing the total number of participating nations to 16. The initiative is seen as a long-term commitment by Australia to deepen its ties with the Pacific region and support regional mobility.

The PEV ballot system ensures a fair and transparent selection process, with successful entrants invited to apply for a permanent visa. PNG citizens are encouraged to register early to increase their chances of selection in this latest round.

According to Australian officials, the scheme is designed not only to support Pacific families seeking opportunities abroad but also to strengthen cultural, economic, and social links between Australia and its closest regional neighbours.
