PNG Air Travel Disrupted After NiuSky System Failure
An air traffic control system outage managed by NiuSky Pacific caused disruptions to flight schedules in Papua New Guinea on Monday afternoon, affecting both Port Moresby and Mt. Hagen.
Air Niugini reported that five of its flights were delayed or canceled as a result of the system failure, which temporarily disabled radar and tracking capabilities. Services resumed after the systems were restored at 3:25pm.
During the disruption, Air Niugini's operations team worked closely with NiuSky Pacific to ensure contingency plans were in place, placing safety at the forefront of all decisions made.
While most delays impacted late afternoon flights, operations across other schedules resumed normally after the radar system came back online.
Air Niugini expressed gratitude to passengers for their patience and said that NiuSky Pacific is investigating the cause of the technical outage to prevent future disruptions.
