Daga Coffee From PNG's Milne Bay Lands in Estonia for the First Time
Milne Bay’s Daga coffee has secured a major breakthrough on the world stage with the arrival of a five-ton shipment in Estonia this week. The export marks the first independent overseas deal for the province’s farmers and has been hailed as a milestone achievement for Papua New Guinea’s coffee industry.
The shipment was made possible through the efforts of Gray Cafe Trading and the Nenuma Cooperative Society, led by Graydon Puinam. He admitted that the process had been tough but rewarding, describing the experience as months of sleepless nights and tireless commitment to bring Milne Bay coffee into international markets.

Unlike past exports where beans from Milne Bay were blended with those from the Highlands, this consignment consisted solely of Daga coffee. Industry insiders say this distinction sets the product apart and gives it the recognition it deserves for its one-of-a-kind flavor.
The turning point came when an Estonian buyer visited the Daga region to sample the coffee directly from farmers. Impressed by its taste, the buyer immediately purchased the entire five-ton lot, signaling confidence in the product’s quality and future marketability.
Farmers and community members have celebrated the export as a victory for the province. They say the achievement reflects not only the flavor of the beans but also the resilience and determination of the people who cultivate them.
Observers believe that this milestone could pave the way for more international deals. With demand for unique coffee varieties on the rise, Daga coffee could soon become a regular feature in European markets, offering farmers a new source of income.
Local leaders are now calling for investment and logistical support to sustain the momentum. They argue that Milne Bay’s success is proof that Papua New Guinea’s diverse coffee regions can stand independently on the world stage with the right backing.
