PNG Fans Invited to Name Country’s First NRL Team

Fans across Papua New Guinea are being invited to take part in a historic moment as the country’s first National Rugby League (NRL) team prepares to choose its official name.

The NRL PNG team says the winning name will appear on team uniforms, stadium signs, and in broadcasts to millions of viewers worldwide. Organisers believe this will give fans a sense of ownership and pride in the team’s journey.

They are urging Papua New Guineans to submit names that capture the country’s heritage, unity, and passion for rugby league – a sport regarded as the nation’s pride. Submissions are open to all and will be reviewed before the final selection is made.

“This is an opportunity for every fan to make their mark in PNG’s sporting history,” organisers said. “We want a name that tells our story to the world and inspires our players every time they take the field.”

Entries can be sent via the official website: https://yourteamnamehere.co/. The organisers hope to receive suggestions from every province as the team moves closer to its NRL debut.
