PM Marape Orders Performance Checks as PNG Cabinet Faces Possible Changes
A full performance review of Cabinet ministers and senior public servants is underway following Prime Minister James Marape’s directive for all leaders to account for their work done in 2025.

Under the directive, ministers and department heads must submit detailed reports and medical clearance by January 7, setting the stage for decisions that could reshape Cabinet in 2026.

The Prime Minister said the move reflects his commitment to accountability and effective leadership as the Government prepares to close out its current term.

Addressing the nation over Christmas, Marape stressed that government leaders must demonstrate commitment, capability and physical readiness to serve the people.

He said the review would measure how well leaders have delivered on promises made when the Government was formed after the 2022 general election.

Marape added that public servants are expected back at work on January 5, with Cabinet scheduled to meet later in the month to begin the year’s work program. He acknowledged that political considerations in the past had slowed Cabinet changes.

“I will be reviewing Cabinet structure, portfolio responsibilities and individual performance to decide who stays and who moves,” Marape said.
