The announcement was confirmed by the National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA), which said the service went live at 8:00am following the completion of all licensing and regulatory requirements in PNG.

NICTA stated that Starlink’s entry into the market is expected to improve internet access across the country, particularly in remote and rural communities where traditional infrastructure has been difficult to establish.

The authority said the satellite-based system will allow users to connect directly through terminals, eliminating the need for ground-based network connections and expanding coverage to previously underserved locations.

Officials described the rollout as an important addition to the country’s telecommunications sector, supporting ongoing efforts to improve digital access and encourage competition among service providers.

Members of the public and businesses have been advised that the service is now available commercially, subject to equipment setup and subscription plans offered by the company.

NICTA Chief Executive Officer Pólume Lume said the authority will continue to oversee operations to ensure compliance with regulations, stating, “NICTA will continue to monitor the rollout and operation of Starlink services to ensure compliance with licence conditions, consumer protection standards, and quality of service obligations.”
