Duma not upset about his sacking
William Duma |
Mr. Duma said, it was the prerogative of the prime minister to appoint and remove ministers and it was unfortunate that it happened while he was away in Brisbane, Australia.
"In any government, the commissioning and decommissioning of ministers and changing, promoting or demoting ministers is the sole authority of the Prime Minister," Mr Duma said.
The URP president in a separate statement denied reports that Mr Duma is angry over his dumping as Petroleum and Energy minister.
"The parliamentary leader and the president of the party are the only authorised spokesmen of the party, and both men have not authorised any so-called spokesman to go to the media," Mr Yapane said.
"The Prime Minister in his own wisdom has done what he thinks is best for his Government and we as the founding coalition partner and as a party have accepted the decision in our humble ways."
"We as a party believe we have served the Prime Minister, the Government and the people of this great nation well and also have contributed meaningfully to the development aspirations of the country from the Somare Government in 2002 to the current O’Neill-Dion Government.
"We will support the current O’Neill-Dion Government despite what has happened to the leader for the sake of national unity and stable government.
"As a party we must give comfort to our international business partners that we are a stable country that can manage its politics well, unlike other countries."
Mr Yapane said the members of the URP parliamentary wing are solid and they will always stand behind their leader and the Member for Hagen Open, and will go from strength to strength for a better Papua New Guinea.
"We apologise for any inconveniences that may have been caused by this media report from the so called spokesman," Mr Yapane said.
"Together with PNC and her coalition partners, we the United Resources Party as a party helped plant a beautiful garden and we cannot let others go in and destroy this garden when it is about to bloom.
"We will remain as partners in the O’Neill-Dion goverment."
