PNG ready to host Melanesian Festival of Arts Culture
Papua New Guinea is ready to host the Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture from Saturday in Port Moresby, Minister for Tourism, Art and Culture, Boka Kondra says.
Kondra welcomed the Melanesian Spearhead Group Culture Ministers at a reception in Port Moresby on Tuesday.
“PNG has got very diverse and unique cultures, music and art,” he said.
He said it was a time to come together to celebrate.
He said the festival “has become a vehicle on which we will all stand together united” and “keep the cultures alive”.
Kondra said all facilities were ready and assured that the programme would be trouble-free.
“Let us go crazy in culture. We have to make it happen and let everybody be consumed by the culture.”
He appealed to everyone to, “drink culture, talk culture, eat culture, play culture, sleep culture”.
“Let us do everything culture, let us celebrate culture at this time.”
Kondra said he looked forward to making the stay fun, enjoyable and memorable as much as possible.
MSG members who attended included chairman of the Ministers of Art and Culture and representative of the FLNKS Yvon Faua, chairman of the MSG Arts and Culture Charls Wea, MSG director-general Peter Forau, director of National Heritage, Culture and Art in Fiji Peni Cavuilagi and the chairman of the fifth Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture, Dr Jacob Simet.
