This is according to a village councillor Joe Tip who says the recovered bodies will be buried tomorrow after their funerals.
He adds that the flood area is at the Kaip Village which is situated at the border between Jiwaka and Western Highlands provinces respectively.
“T he river is a small one but it has burst its banks like a very big one and this is an unusual tragedy for the community.”
Meanwhile, Jiwaka Provincial Disaster Coordinator and Deputy Provincial Administrator Mr Joseph Amban told media that an assessment on the ground has already done by his team and will submit a Report to the National Disaster Office in Port Moresby for relief assistance.
“As a result of the flood up to 200 families were affected and are in need of relief assistance as their food gardens were destroyed by the flood. Domestic animals other properties were also lost.”
Moreover, it is understood that the National Weather Service has issued warning that the country will experience heavy rain and this month (March) will be at its peak so the public should take heed of this.
