Baki confirms arrest warrent of Secretary Vele
While confirming the warrant of arrest on the Finance Secretary Dairi Vele has been obtained by Chief Inspector Timothy GITUA of the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate, Police Commissioner Gari Baki said he is concerned that as Commissioner he was not provided a brief on the matter which was made known to the public via social media.
Commissioner Baki said the actions of Mr. Damaru and Mr. Gitua of the Fraud Office undermines the integrity of the office of the commissioner of police and is a serious breach of discipline and amounts to insubordination.
In the light of these acts of insubordination, Mr. Baki has ordered for a police investigation team to look into the operations of the Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate in terms of past, present and pending investigations.
“Why wasn’t I briefed prior to the securing of the warrant of arrest?”
The Commissioner has directed that the Acting Commissioner Raphael Huafolo lead a high profile police investigation team to investigate operations of the NFACD in view of the fact that the office is heavily politicized and influenced and not impartial in all matters currently under investigation.
“There will be no more direct approach by members of the NFACD or any other members of the Constabulary for that matter to the courts in obtaining a warrant of arrest without the express approval of the Commissioner of Police,” Mr. Baki said. PNGFM
