West Papua Human Rights issue on Pacific Islands Forum agenda
Human rights issues in West Papua will be one item pushed to Pacific Island leaders at the Pacific Islands Forum starting tomorrow.
Chairman of the Human Rights for West Papua People, Mr. Jeffery Bomai says they have partnered with the Pacific Island Association of NGO (PIANGO) and will put through their resolution to have the PIF to conduct a fact finding missions to West Papua.
PIANGO is a regional network of NGO focal points or coordinating bodies known as National Liaison Units based in 22 Pacific Islands Countries and territories.
The organisation also recognises human rights protection and boosting of the issue of West Papua to the rest of the pacific nations to gain support in their plight for independence.
“We want the mission to investigate history reports, human rights abuse reports and current situation, such as the declining population of native West Papuans and its true cause,” said Bomai.
Since the 1960s when Indonesia took control of West Papua, the people have suffered at their hands all because they wanted freedom and to be an independent pacific island nation just like the rest of the pacific.
