PNG Prime Minister O’Neill and Mrs Babao-O’Neill Meet with Japan’s Emperor and Empress

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister . Peter O'Neill, and Mrs Lynda Babao-O’Neill, today made a courtesy call on their Imperial Majesties of Japan, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

Issues of mutual concern and interest were shared between the Prime Minister and Mrs Babao-O’Neill and Japan’s Emperor and Empress as the coupes enjoyed tea. Speaking after the visit, the Prime Minister, Hon. Peter O’Neill CMG MP, said the discussion was enlightening and he appreciated interest shown by the Emperor and Empress in Papua New Guinea.

"I appreciate for the strong support and interest the Emperor and Empress have in the relationship between Japan and Papua New Guinea,” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said.

“It was a pleasure to convey the fond best wishes of the Governor General of Papua New Guinea, Grand Chief, Sir Michael Ogio, and the First Lady, on behalf of the people of Papua New Guinea to the Emporer and Empress and the people of Japan."
