Bad decision puts coffee growers out of business
A bad decision by the PNG Coffee Industry Corporation Board has put over a 100 small coffee growers in Morobe, Madang, Eastern Highlands and Jiwaka Provinces out of business since 2009.
The farmers who sell their coffee to the Busu Coffee Limited have since been affected with the CIC Board refusing to renew the company's license to export.
University of Goroka Interim Chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb, who spoke on behalf of the company has appealed to the government and the appropriate authorities to take immediate action in addressing the problem.
Mr Sukwianomb says the decision by the CIC board directly contradicts Vision 2050 which talks about nationals owning and participating in wealth creation.
