Opposition commends Governor Powi for taking legal actions against O'Neill Govt over budget cuts

Southern Highlands Governor William Powi
PORT MORESBY: Opposition Leader Don Pomb Polye has embraced the Southern Highlands governor William Powi for his announcement in suing the government over K96 million cut in the provincial budget.
Mr Polye said the governor acted appropriately in putting his people’s interests ahead of his own.
“Such a trait portrayed by the governor is rare and only a few possess it.
“We need more leaders of Powi’s caliber to make the government distribute wealth equally to all the provinces, districts and the local level governments,” he said.
He said his own Kandep district and other districts of his fellow Opposition MPs also fell victim to ‘the government’s irresponsible behavior’ aimed at withholding district, provincial and LLG funds to achieve ‘political expediency’.
Polye has called on other government MPs in the government to follow the governor’s footstep to seek justice in the courts over budgetary cuts.
“The government, which the Opposition forms, will start to remit full LLG, DSIP, and PSIP funds to all MPs irrespective of the division in Parliament,” said Mr Polye.
The Opposition Leader has also urged those MPs whose people were mistreated by the government to form a strategic alliance with the Opposition in its on-going campaign against the government in the lead up to the Parliament session on March 22nd.
