Vanuatu Government organises fundraiser for Fiji cyclone victims
Vanuatu has not forgotten Fiji’s immediate response after cyclone PAM hit the central and southern islands of Vanuatu in March last year when Fiji Military personnel were deployed on Efate and Tanna to help rebuild schools devastated by the cyclone.
The people of Vanuatu have not forgotten and the government has not forgotten.
Now the government is taking the lead in a fundraising event this weekend.
Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade, brief sessions had been held with the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Fiji to the Vanuatu, Mr. Charles Valentine and the Vanuatu – Fiji Business Association, The Representatives of Kiwanis Vanuatu and Rotary Club and other stake holders in preparation of the Cyclone Winston Appeal to be held on 5th March, 2016 at the Sea Front Park.
This will be a coordinated event organized for all citizens of Vanuatu to contribute towards helping the people of Fiji at this critical time as they rebuild their lives after the destruction caused by catastrophic Tropical Cyclone Winston.
The Acting Director General of the Ministry on behalf of the Government facilitated this meeting to ensure there is coordinated approach and involvement from all stake holders for the event noting there is interest from wider community to provide support.
According to tentative program, the event will commence at 9am to 4:30pm with many activities happening raging from the sale of ruffle tickets, food Stalls and other goods for sale.
On this note, The Ministry is strongly advising individuals, communities and organizations that organization of fundraising activities towards TC Winston must be made in consultation with Mr. Charles Valentine as the Fiji Government Representative here in Vanuatu. This is to ensure coordination of all donations and support to the Government and people of Fiji.
The public at large is invited to the event on Saturday to provide support for a good course.
