China Wuyi Co to invest more in PNG's East Highlands

The Eastern Highlands Provincial Government in PNG under the Numu administration has been focusing on 3 key policy priority areas; Road infrastructure, Agriculture and Business Investments.

In its endeavor to realise its development aspirations in the province, the provincial government has opened its doors for investment in the province.

Last Wednesday, a high level delegation from China Wuyi Co Limited visited Eastern Highlands Province.

China Wuyi Co Limited is a subsidiary of Fujian Construction Engineering Corporation in Fujian Province, China. A State Owned Enterprise actively involved in construction and engineering. It carries out international projects as the overseas arm of the Fujian Construction Engineering Corporation.

The Company reported $334 million in international project work in 2012, placing the company among the 250 largest international contractors as ranked by ‘Engineering News Record’.

The team’s visit last week added credence to a long time sister province relationship between Eastern Highlands and Fujian province which was started in 1996. The relationship remained dormant for nearly 20 years. Until under Numu administration, the sister provincial was revitalized, with beneficial economic development prospects that will impact Eastern Highlanders.

The aim of delegation’s visit was to further promote and strengthen the sister provincial relationship
between Fujian and Eastern Highlands provinces and bolster the Company’s effort in supporting the provincial government in infrastructure development.
The visit was also, to inspect infrastructure projects undertaken by China Wiyu Co Ltd in Eastern Highlands for their quality standards for the socio economic benefit of the people of Eastern Highlands, and PNG.

Eastern Highlands Deputy Governor Pikus Boas and Provincial Administrator John Gimiseve received the team on behalf of Governor Numu.

They welcomed the team on board to co-partner with the provincial government to support implementing the 3 key polices of the provincial government in the province.

General Manager of Fujian Construction and Engineering Co, Lin Xias Qun, said the relationship between Eastern Highlands and Fujian provinces has significantly improved recently.

China Wiyu Co currently has 3 projects being implemented in Eastern Highlands. The projects namely are; K22M Goroka Market redevelopment, K81.7M Viviso Highway in Henganofi, and $900M Highlands Highway rehabilitation, segment from Henganofi to Western Highlands.

Mr. Qun stated that they not only will do an inspection on the current projects that are being implemented but also as a Civil Engineering Construction Company, “we would like to have our projects here be of very good quality, and done well! Also, based on current situation, “we would like to get more information about the projects for us to have further investments, said Mr. Qun.

Mr. Qun further said that since Eastern Highlands and Fujian provinces are friends, which was built long time ago, “we would like to join in the development of Eastern Highlands province and make some contribution to the basic infrastructure constructions here to make this place a better one."

Provincial Administrator John Gimiseve said the provincial government is stable unlike in the past, both political and administration, hence very good for partnership and investment.

The high level Chinese delegation spent 2 days in Eastern Highlands before they headed back to Port Moresby.
