Solomon Islands Police Commends Public for great behaviour during Prince of Wales Visit
Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), Matthew Varley commends the good behaviour shown by members of the public in Honiara during the visit of His Royal Highness (HRH), the Prince of Wales in the capital since Saturday 23 November 2019,
The Prince of Wales and his entourage flew out of Honiara International Airport late this afternoon after inspecting a farewell parade on the tarmac by a male and female platoon of the RSIPF accompanied by the Police Brass Band. This was the Prince of Wales’ first visit to Solomon Islands.
“I would like to sincerely thank all members of the public in Honiara including drivers and pedestrians alike for the great behaviour shown as the Prince Wales and members of his entourage moved around the city to the various venues in his program,” says RSIPF Commissioner Matthew Varley soon after farewelling HRH at the airport together with the Governor General H.E. Sir David Vunagi and Prime Minister, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare.
“No major incident was reported during the visit as my officers provided security 24 hours a day during HRH Prince of Wales two-day stay in Honiara. Members of the public moved around peacefully to the various venues of the program showing great respect not only for HRH but also the police officers that were providing security as well as traffic controls during the movement of the motorcade in the city.”
“The great respect that citizens of this country have been traditionally known for was manifested during the short stay of HRH, the Prince of Wales,” says Commissioner Varley.
He adds: “I would like to also thank all my Executive Team and all ranks and files involved in the security operation during the visit for their hard work and dedication to ensure there was no incident during the royal visit.”
“I want to mention officers of the Close Personal Protection (CPP) Unit, the Police Response Team (PRT), the Central Response Unit (CRU) of Honiara City, the Provincial Response Unit (PRU) in Guadalcanal Province, traffic officers, the Explosive Ordnance Device Team and the officers providing the guard of honour for Prince of Wales on his arrival and at his departure.”
“Thank you for the professionalism and dedication shown despite the long hours spent on duty during the operation. I know HRH the Prince of Wales enjoyed his short stay in Honiara. I also thank family members of my officers for bearing with them during the operation,” says Commissioner Varley.
