PNG Police Minister Kramer highlights Police Legacy Issues

Legacy issues have crippled the police force.

Papua New Guinea Police Minister Bryan Kramer told parliament, whilst the needs are greater, the manpower is inadequate to satisfy the public's expectation of a fully functioning force.

Kramer said the government is now focused on fixing police manpower, operational and administrative issues to ensure police perform their duties.

He said, the current government remains committed to addressing those issues but it will take no more than five years.

"So the focus right now with the Marape Steven Government and the prime minister is to improve the welfare and occupational capacity of our officers," Kramer stressed.

Minister Kramer was responding to NCD Governor Powes Parkop on killings and illegal firearms in the country.
