PNG government must fully fund response plan for Coronavirus - WHO
The Papua New Guinea Government must make health a priority and fully fund the health department’s emergency response plan to fight the coronavirus.
World Health Organization country representative Dr. Lua Dapeng says this will ensure all surveillance system in the country is in full operation, which will make the public aware of the work the department is doing.
He says hospitals around the country need to be fully equipped and health workers trained, in the event if we do go into the worse scenario.
Dr. Dapeng called for all sectors to cooperate and work together with the NDOH to ensure their preparedness response are well vest.
He says comprehensive or blended approach should continue with containment as the major pillar.
Meanwhile, according to WHO the latest global numbers of as of March 11, 2020 shows a total number of cases globally is 118, 326.
80, 955 in China and 37, 371 are outside of China.
Total number of deaths globally stands at 4, 292.
3, 162 in China and 1, 130 are outside of China.
The number of countries outside of China that are affected are 114, and is expected to climb in the coming week.
