PNG Govt is not Sleeping, We are working to fight Coronavirus, says Marape
Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Jame Marape says his government is not hibernating but working hard to fight and prevent Coranavirus COVID-19 from entering in the country.
“Our government is not sleeping. We are still working. Our life will go on beyond COVID-19 in this country. I ask for your understanding during this trying times not only in PNG but globally as we pull through this pandemic,” the words of Prime Minister James Marape.
PM Marape said parliament meets this Thursday for its urgent sitting following its recall and the government expects some blessings on the strategies deployed thus far including the State of Emergency callout, economic rescue packages to benefit employed individuals, SME's, companies operating in our country to name a few.
He said the government was using the opportunity during the slow down of the economy in PNG and globally to mobilize support for the country and its citizens to ensure we do not sit back and move into recession; but pick up and maintain our composure going into the future as far as our economy is concerned.
He said amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the government is still working on some mining projects, oil and gas projects, ongoing discussions especially on P’nyang gas field development agreement in the Western Highland after halting negotiations early this year, Wafi Golpu, Porgera and other announcements to come in the not too distant future.
“Let’s defeat coronavirus in the first instance. And using our experience, we will build a better health system for our country going into the future.”
