Papua New Guinea Confirms the 11th Positive Case of COVID-19 after aggressive contact tracing and a step up in targeted testing. Case 11 is a 26 year old female that resides in Port Moresby and is a close contact of Case 10.
Case 11 is doing well and is being monitored by the trained staff at Rita Flynn.
The Source of infection for all recent cases is still under investigation.
Deputy Controller Or Paison Dakulala reiterated that, "People will not know that they have COVID-19, and may move around town feeling unwell and most importantly being in an infectious state. This drives home the importance of staying home when you have flu like symptoms, cough, body aches and fever. Our 1800200 Hotline is manned 24hours and can assist you to get tested".
Controller David Manning also commented, "In the last 48 hours we have we have confirmed 2 new cases in Port Moresby. I will seek advice from our health officials in the morning and will make a decision on whether or not to enforce restrictions in the city going forward.
I would also like to caution members of the general public not to share fake news on social media and through other sources. My cyber crime unit alerted me to the circulation of fake positive cases on Facebook and through Whatsapp messaging. The only credible information in relation to positive cases are from declarations made from the NCC".
