PNG Police Arrest Chinese Woman over alleged Mistreatment of Citizens

After a concern was raised by PNG citizens on social media on mistreatment of PNG citizens working in a plywood factory in Laloki in the Central Province by foreigners, the Minister for Immigrations and Border Security Hon Westly Nukundi Nukundj MP, immediately responded and directed the Iimmigrations Special Investigation Team to immediately conduct a routine inspection to verify the claims and see if those foreigners have the relevant visa to engage in such businesses.

While implementing the directive and in the process of the inspection, the Special Investigation Team apprehended the supervisor of the factory who is a Chinese woman who was found to have breached her visa conditions and violated visa rules and regulations. She was apprehended, arrested, charged and locked up at Boroko cells whilst further investigations will continue on all other serious allegations and mistreatment of PNG workers.

Immigrations Department will come down very hard on foreigners who continue to abuse their visa conditions.

Minister Nukundj encouraged all citizens to use all media sources to report illegal activities of foreigners which has some element of threat to the national security.

'’This is the first positive sign and more of such will continue if citizens provide factual information ".

"I want to remind all citizens and foreigners that my officers are not sleeping as they are working around the clock in monitoring issues of border security”

Immigrations focus now is to investigate and identify illegal immigrants with fake visas and mainly those immigrants whose conduct and actions are a threat to national security.
