PNG Police Chief Orders For Police Revervists to be stood Down

Papua New Guinea  Police Commissioner David Manning has ordered for all police reservists nationwide to be stood down, effective by September 15, 2020.

The police reservists are expected to return all police issued items including uniforms, radios, firearms and ammunition by Monday 14 September.

Mr Manning says anyone caught with these items after 14 September will be charged with impersonation or in possession of police issued items

He says the decision to stand down the reservists was made following widespread abuse by members of the Reserve Branch.

He adds regular members of police also take advantage of the presence of reserve policemen and do not turn up to work as well.

Mr Manning says whilst the reservists are being stood down, various police commands will take stock of their manpower needs and any gaps identified will be filled by former reservists as well as interested citizens.

Members of the Reserve Branch who are engaged under a Memorandum of Understanding/Agreement with respective organizations are the only exception to this directive.
