PNG PM Marape Is No Saint : Sir Julius
Papua New Guinea's New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan has brushed aside claims by Prime Minister James Marape that he and fellow Senior politician Paias Wingti were instigators of the mass exodus of Government MPs to the Opposition ranks in November.
He said the choice to move was made independently by each individual MP who had their own reasons for leaving Government at the time.
“No one was held at gun point and forced to move. Instead of pointing fingers Marape needs to take stock of his own style of Managing this country and pay particular attention to certain MPs that claim to be his close allies. If he is not careful he along with those MPs will run this country down. Sadly this is already happening,” said Sir J.
He said Marape was no saint . He caused the spill in the O'Neil PNC led Government when he was vouching for the top post. “He solicited me quite persistently to support his overthrow of PM O'Neil . PPP submitted with conditional guaranteed ministerial positions under his boss O'Neil stating that he would not temper. He did .Not one cut but two. His craving for power led to broken promises.”
Reflecting back to the Motion of No Confidence against O’Neil, Sir J said “ I believe Wingti and I were last to leave PM O'Neil when he could no longer keep his members. We did not ditch O'Neil we pleaded with him to cause a smooth transition. He did and we remained great and honourable friends. No back stabbing.”
“ It’s time PMJM looks into his own backyard instead of blaming us. We put him as PM. He should ask his partners.
Sir J said it was not his style to cast aspersion or badmouth fellow parliamentary leaders. “But I will not standby deceit or abuse calling one's integrity to question.”
