PNG Government urged to seriously implement and enforce Bills passed in Parliament

Papua New Guinea People's Reform Party founder and North Fly Open MP James Donald has called on the government to ensure all past and present Bills that were passed by Parliament as laws must be implemented and strictly enforced by a new and separate government department or entity.

He made this statement following the passing of ten (10) Bills by Parliament last week.

The first-term MP says that Parliament passes so many laws, but in his view, the issue is the enforcement of these laws.

According to Mr Donald, why these laws don't work is simply the failure of the enforcements and actual operation of the Bills previously and presently passed.

The MP is proposing that in every department there must be a team called "Team Operations" that actually carries out the respective department's policies and laws without fear and favour.

The Reformist said that every organization that has an operations team is always seen to be successful and it is high time a separate entity is created to ensure all Bills passed as laws must be strictly and independently be enforced.

He suggests a new portfolio or responsibility can be vested to a Minister or the Deputy Prime Minister who will be responsible for the actual operations ensuring all these laws are enforced.

It is his belief that many Bills passed in parliament are simply shelved and not implemented.

Mr Donald made this call so the country does not have existing laws that are at most times not implemented and policed.

Meantime, Parliament last week has passed several important Bills,  including the Criminal Code Amendment Bill which repealed the death penalty.
