Papua New Guinea Opens Its Borders for International Travellers

Papua New Guinea (PNG)  is opening up its borders, with tourist travel encouraged and no international travel approvals now required from the National Pandemic Response Controller David Manning.

COVID-19 restrictions no longer apply for public transportation.


These are among ten new measures for domestic, international and social -announced this week, and come into effect tomorrow - Wednesday 16th February.

David Manning says for international travel, all persons must be fully vaccinated to travel to PNG, unless they are under 18 years of age or are a citizen.

All international travellers must have a valid COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to their original port of departure, will all be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival, there shall be no quarantine for any person, except for persons who test positive on arrival who shall be quarantined for 7 days; and t is the responsibility of travel operators to make sure that a person has the necessary documents to board an aircraft/vessel to travel to PNG. 

He says, for domestic travel, no person may fly if they are symptomatic for COVID-19, they must all have their temperature checked by airline staff and no person may travel if their temperature registers at or over 37.5C (except for medivac and emergency flights.
