Singapore Cautions PNG not to involve in Conflicts between Superpowers
Singapore has cautioned Papua New Guinea against getting involved in conflicts between world superpowers such as the United States and China.
President of Singapore Halimah Yacob issued the caution when Governor General Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae paid her a courtesy call at Istana in Singapore this week.
President Yacob says island nations rely on other countries for their economic development, trade investment and security.
But she says island nations must tread carefully when dealing with superpowers such as the United States and China.
President Yacob says as much as possible, that island nations must avoid being drawn into conflicts between these countries, and instead encourage dialogue to resolve issues.
She says there are a lot of conflicts in the world, and it is better to talk and not be involved in these conflicts.
Grand Chief Sir Bob says PNG shares similar views with Singapore.
