Pacific Leaders Arrive in Papua New Guinea for Pope Francis' State Visit

More Pacific Island leaders arrived in Port Moresby on Friday afternoon ahead of Pope Francis' State Visit to Papua New Guinea. The leaders are attending the event at the invitation of Prime Minister Hon. James Marape.


Among those welcomed were President of the Republic of Nauru, H.E. David Adeang, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, Hon. Hu'akavemeiliku Siaosi Sovaleni, and Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), H.E. Baron Waqa. They were greeted with a small welcoming ceremony at the Ceremonial Park at Jackson's International Airport.

The visit by these regional leaders underscores the significance of Pope Francis' historic State Visit to the country, marking a moment of unity among Pacific nations.

Further arrivals of international guests are expected as the event draws near.
