PNG Rugby Star Keven Appo Fleeing the UK: Arrest Warrant Issued Amidst Sexual Assault Allegations

Keven Appo, the Papua New Guinea international rugby league player, is now being sought by UK authorities after failing to appear for his scheduled court hearing on January 6th, 2025. An arrest warrant has been issued for the 25-year-old, who is facing serious charges of rape, sexual assault, and assault. Authorities are actively searching for Appo, who is believed to have fled the UK before the hearing.

The charges against Appo stem from a report made in April 2024, which prompted an investigation by the Calderdale District Adult Protection Team. It is alleged that Appo left the UK for Dubai, then returned to Papua New Guinea around the time of the alleged offenses. UK authorities are now working on an extradition process to bring him back to face charges.

Appo joined the Bradford Bulls in 2023, having helped Papua New Guinea reach the quarter-finals of the 2022 Rugby League World Cup. He played 61 matches for the club before being dismissed due to the allegations.

Prosecutor Fiona Newcombe informed the court that Appo had sent his house and car keys to the club manager before disappearing. Authorities are collaborating with law enforcement in Papua New Guinea to secure his return for trial.

This case has garnered significant attention as international law enforcement works to ensure that Appo faces justice for the charges against him. The investigation continues as officials aim to track him down and bring him back to the UK.
