Activist wants Solomon Island Prime Minister to step aside

EARTH Island Institute (EII) Regional Director and outspoken dolphin activist, Lawrence Makili has joined the chorus calling on Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo to step aside.
Mr Makili said the alleged sex scandal rocking Mr Lilo’s leadership is only one of the many reasons that warrant the prime minister’s early exit.

“He has also failed to address issues such as upholding the dolphin ban,” Mr Makili claimed.
“Nothing has been done to address the dolphin issue which is of course a national issue nowadays.
“The Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Fisheries have done nothing about the issue, nor have their ministers come out to speak publicly about their plans on dealing with the issue since the start of this year.
“Even the Prime Minister himself has failed to deal with the issue, seeing some of his cronies are the main dolphin dealers in the country.
“Such actions are not of a leader, therefore I call upon Mr Lilo to step down so that Solomon Islands can progress under a new leader,” Mr Makili said.
