Amaiu vows to build new classrooms, staff houses
MORESBY North-East MP, Labi Amaiu had promised to build new classrooms and teachers’ houses for schools in his electorate.
Amaiu made that known during the launching of the five-year development plan last week.
He wants to see the electorate lead the way in terms of quality education that is comparable with world’s best practice with an adequate number of classrooms and access to well-equipped science labs and libraries.
“In terms of immediate action then, we have approved funding for two H65 teachers’ houses at Gordon Secondary School, one double classroom each at Holy Rosary Primary School, New Erima Primary School and Evedahana Primary School and a staff complex at Bomana Primary School,” he said.
He said there must be quality-learning material available for every student, delivered in the most relevant way and by well-trained teachers.
“It is my responsibility as your elected leader to do all I can to ensure the schools are delivering the best education within well-equipped facilities.
He said parents must make it their responsibility to ensure that their children are sent to school.
“It breaks my heart to see school age children roaming around town, not attending school and thereby reducing their chances of a productive and secure future.
He also urged the people of Moresby North-East electorate to work together in implementing the development plan.
