Peoples Progress Party supports Prime Minister O'neill

PPP remains PNC partner.
The new leader of the People’s Progress Party (PPP)  Ben Micah says PPP supports the Peoples National Congress party-led government under Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, and says it will remain a coalition partner with the government it helped form in 2012.

Mr Micah was speaking during the  the handover takeover of the leadership at the Parliament House today.

New Ireland Governor and founder of PPP, Sir Julius Chan, formally handed over the parliamentary leadership to Kavieng MP and State Enterprise Minister, Ben Micah, today.

While the change of PPP leadership may have taken place at a wrong time, a time when politics in the country is in turmoil, both Sir Julius and Ben Micah say the PPP caucus set this date for the handover taker over, even though the party made changes in its parliamentary leadership a month ago.

And the new leader, Ben Micah, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the PNC-led government.

He said the party continues to provide support to the government at this time and is happy where it is now.

Outgoing PPP parliamentary leader, Sir Julius Chan had this to say about what is happening in politics in the country right now.

People’s Progress Party is one party that has stood the test of time from the first House of Assembly in 1970 to now, producing MPs to the floor of parliament since then, and Mr Micah said they have always been part of strong and stable governments, and they will continue.
