Vaki calls off planned protest
There will be no protest march tomorrow in the Nation's Capital as anticipated by the public.
Acting Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki issued the instructions this afternoon, saying any organized gathering in the city is illegal.
Vaki said from his own assessment and past experience, such political demonstration always end up in violence and those participating will be dealt with.
He said National Capital District Acting Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N'Dranou gave green light this morning, but has decided otherwise on second thoughts.
He said Papua New Guinean's don't know how to protest and that safety is of paramount importance if the situation gets out of hand.
He also said sacked politicians might be involved in this with their supporters.
Vaki made it clear to the media the decision was his as the commissioner and his didn't consult any one else.
