PNG TRADE UNION BACKS ENERGY WORKERS
Over a thousand members of the Energy Workers Association supported by fellow unions from the National Airlines Employees Association and Maritime Workers Association today gathered at the PNG Trade Union Congress Office demanding for their entitlements to be given priority by the government over other issues with the sale of PNG Power or they will take out an industrial action.
They went to seek PNG TUC support and the Union body’s stand in the issues affecting the workers and were assured that the PNGTUC was also behind their fight to get the government to settle outstanding entitlements for them.
General Secretary for PNG TUC John Paska told the gathering that the union body was ready to take their issues up with the government as soon as they could and questioned the opposition for failing to quickly inform the Unions of the sale of PNG Power.
Meanwhile, Energy Workers Union General Secretary Santee Margis assured the workers that their grievances will be directly taken up with the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and among the issues, the calls by workers for PM to sack Ben Micah as Minister for Public Enterprises and State Investments.
He called for calm amongst the workers until after the proposed meet with the Prime Minister O’Neill is over and a a resolution has been reached.
