PNG Cricket star returns home
All conquering and talented 21 year old PNG Cricket, Lega Siaka quietly slipped into the country ON Thursday, returning from his Cricket scholarship stint in Melbourne, Australia and will undergo training with the Digicel PNG Barramundis team.
Lega was greeted by his excited dad Siaka Lega and mum with other family members at the Jacksons International Terminal after been away for six months.
“The club that I play for in Melbourne do have a good standard as well as some good cricketers and it was a good opportunity to face the bowlers especially to improve my skill and style of batting,” says a quiet and soft spoken Lega when asked about his experience in Melbourne.
He adds, “Especially I did learned a lot for my batting and fielding as well with a little bit of bowling. And with this experience I hope to share my knowledge and help teach other young boys to contribute in improving cricket in the country.”
Lega played for the Barramundis during the South Australia Cricket Association season while on scholarship, played County Cricket for the Melbourne Club, was awarded the Rookie of the Year contract for Melbourne Renegades for the Big Bash T20 tournament and the biggest achievement according to him is playing in the Australia Prime Minister’s eleven team against England and having Australia star Glenn ‘The Big Show’ Maxwell.
“I really wanted to bat with him (Maxwell) in the middle but did not get the chance to do so, but it was a good opportunity for me to watch him play and learn some batting skills from him because he is one of the World’s best cricketers at the moment,” says Lega about his experience with the PM’s Eleven team.
The youngster from Gabi village in Port Moresby is very enthused to have another crack in the Australia T20 Big Bash and also further his cricket knowledge because he sees a long future ahead of him.
