State farewells late Governor Agiru
Close to a thousand mourners, including members of the public, dignitaries, members of parliament, statutory heads and heads department flocked in to the Sir John Guise Stadium this morning to pay their last respects to late Hela Governor Anderson Agiru at his funeral service.
Before the funeral service, the late governor’s casket was transported from Funeral Home to the National Parliament where he was laid In-State in the grand hall for last viewing by Members of the National Parliament, Department Heads, Heads of Statutory Bodies and Diplomats.
In his tribute to late Mr. Agiru, Member for Koroba Lake Kopiago Philip Undialu the late governor was a man of the people and the father of PNG’s first LNG gas project.
“He was a man of intellect and had so much to give to his people in Hela and Southern Highlands while he was alive. The people will really miss him as a leader.”
The late Mr. Agiru died at age 54. Also in attendance at this funeral service was Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, DPM Leo Dion, Opposition leader Sam Basil, Chief Justice Sir Salamoa Injia and other colleague ministers and MP’s.
