PNG Hunters down Northern Pride 22 - 6
The Papua New Guinea SP Hunters have defeated Northern Pride 22- 6 in a tough physical match at the National Football Stadium a short while ago.
The Northern Prides wasted no time to put themselves first on the score board through forward Sheldon Powe Habbs. With a successful conversion the visitors took the early lead in the first quarter of the game. The game intensified with big hits as forwards from both sides showed their strength in carrying the ball forward to the opposition territory.
The home side, backed by cheering home crowd fired on and attacked the Prides' defence line. Co-caption Adam Korave scored for the Hunters after a nice cut out pass from hooker Wartovo Puara. Zeming sent the ball between the uprights and the scored was squared at 6 - 6 through to half-time.
In the second half, the Hunters kept the visitors scoreless and were dominant in defence and in attacked.
Winger Philemon Kimiseve scored first for the Hunters to extend their lead to 12 - 6. The Prides were unable to tame the Hunters forward pack led by Issau Siune and Andrew Wan who terrorized their territory and gain lots of easy meters. Center Thomson took advantage and scored the Hunters third try of the night. Zeming slotted the ball between the uprights and the Hunters extended their lead to 18 - 6.
The visitors threw everything in attack and defence at the Hunters but the home side was too strong and held out their attack with strong goal line defence.
Hunters hooker Wartovo Puara sealed the game with a try after a nice dummy half run from a scrum. Zemings missed the conversion and the scored was 22 - 6 at full time.
