Tourists attacked in Mt Hagen

Three foreigners were held up and attacked today by a group of men at the Rondon Ridge in Mt Hagen, Papua New Guinea.

PNG Population Health Director with Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority Dr Madison Dat said the incident happened when the victims, believed to be tourists were driving from Rondon Ridge Lodge where they were staying.

He confirmed that of the three, one was slashed on his left hand and will have the wound stitched tonight.

The three middle age gentlemen of Australia and New Zealand origin were held up in the vehicle they were travelling in with their tour guide, according to Dr Dat.

Dr Dat also said that the gang made off with their possessions, including their travel documents.

He added that this is the first time for such an incident to happen to tourists in the area.
