REPORT: PILOT ERROR CAUSED CHUUK CRASH
Air Niugini's Boeing 737 aircraft crash in the Federated State of Micronesia was due to pilot error.
This was revealed by the final report from the PNG Accident and Investigations Commission released today.
In September 2018, the flight, operated by a Boeing 737 air craft, landed short of the runway at Chuuk International Airport in Weno and came to rest in Chuuk Lagoon.
Locals in small boats rescued most passengers and all crew members.
One passenger was later found dead.
The million Kina worth aircraft is still in Chuuk waters, rotting away.
Air Niugini's Managing Director Alan Milne said the airline will provide its response to the final report shortly.
