ESP UPNG Open Campus Director murdered
East Sepik Province’s University of Papua New Guinea Open Campus Director Mr. John Glichuku has been murdered on Friday.
East Sepik Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Albert Beli said the late director was stabbed twice on his neck and was later rushed to the Boram General Hospital where he later died.
“The Director was dropping someone off around 7pm to 8pm in the night somewhere between the Boram CS Institute and the Perigo Police barracks when the incident happened. People heard screams and came to see, only to find out that it was the director of UPNG Open Campus in the province”, PPC Beli said.
Superintendent Beli said two prime suspects have been apprehended and locked up at the Wewak police station.
PPC Beli called on the relatives not to retaliate and let police investigate. He said investigations would commence tomorrow.
He said the post mortem of the late director will be carried out tomorrow and from there they will commence their investigations.
“I call on the relatives to bear with the police and hospital staff to carry out a post mortem and determine the cause of death”, PPC Beli said.
PPC Beli said why the late director was killed is yet to be determined.
“I have no clue or idea what the cause of the death is. The people around the community are surprised of the attack. I’m even surprised that even the suspect and the director have nothing in common”, said PPC Beli.
“But we will work closely with the relatives and the community to investigate and find out what the cause of the death was”, Supt Beli stressed.
Meanwhile, he condemned the killing, describing it as barbaric and uncalled for.
