COVID-19: PNG Govt Looks at Short Term Relief for citizens and companies

Papua New Guineans who have been put off work without pay during this lock down period will be glad to know that the Government is talking to banks and the superannuation companies about short term relief.

In an announcement today Prime Minister James Marape says banks have given indications they can defer loan repayments for 3 months.

This is for individuals and companies who have loans with banks and are suffering as a result of the COVID-19 lockdown throughout the country.

Marape says has also asked superannuation companies to help families whose bread winners are being laid off their jobs.

“We know there are companies who have laid off workers without pay and we are asking superfunds to give savings to those affected so they can put bread on the table for their families during this down time,” he added.

This announcement was among others which the Prime Minister says will be actioned and put in place over the coming days to cushion the economy, support local business and sustain employment.
