Marape-Steven Govt admits COVID-19 Exposes Gaps in PNG Health System
The Marape-Steven government admits the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed many loopholes and weaknesses in Papua New Guinea's health system, which it is now working towards addressing.
Acting Health Secretary, Dr. Paison Dakulala, said the government had moved swiftly to prepare for the pandemic due to the limitations of the health system.
Dr. Dakulala said the country has just emerged from back to back emergencies with the earthquake in the highlands and the Polio outbreak in 2018.
He said the department's established Provincial Emergency Operations Centres have been reactivated for COVID-19 work and responses and further strengthen their capacities in fighting the virus.
