Australia, Western Highlands and Jiwaka pay respect to Grand Chief
More than 10 000 people from the Western Highlands and Jiwaka Provinces living in Port Moresby paid their respect for late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare on Sunday 7th of March.
The mourners converged to the city's Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby to pay their respect to the country's fallen hero, statesman, Grand Chief and Father of the Nation Sir Michael Thomas Somare.
They were joined by their Members of Parliament and prominent businessmen and women from the two provinces.
Papua New Guinea government declared two weeks of mourning to allow people to pay respect for the founding father and Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare. The 22 provinces in the country have been scheduled to visit the funeral venue at Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby to show their respect and mourn the death of Grand Chief.
Meanwhile, Australia Prime Minister Scott Morisson has said, his country will also pay respect to Grand Chief by lowering the Australia flag to half mast on Monday (Today).

"I apologize for not attending, but on Monday, Australian flags will be lowered to half mast in respect of the great man. It’s rarely done in Australia and the last time it was done was in honour of Nelson Mandela". he said in a statement.
