As is tradition, a water salute was held to welcome the aircraft as it touched down at Jacksons Airport. Air Niugini Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Gary Seddon, along with members of his management team, was present to receive the aircraft. Mr. Seddon noted that this marks the first aircraft purchase by the airline in 10 years, reflecting Air Niugini's commitment to expanding its domestic services.

Mr. Seddon expressed gratitude to the Marape/Rosso government for its financial support through the PIP and extended thanks to KCH for its continuous assistance. He emphasized that the new aircraft would enhance the airline’s operational efficiency and schedule reliability on domestic routes, ensuring safe and reliable service for the people of Papua New Guinea.

Mr. Seddon also acknowledged the crucial role played by the Hon. William Duma, Minister for State-Owned Enterprises, in championing the fleet transition program. He further thanked the leadership of KCH for their unwavering support in securing the new aircraft for the airline.

The new Q400 is expected to commence commercial operations by November, once all regulatory requirements from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Papua New Guinea (CASA PNG) are completed. The Q400 aircraft are larger, faster, and more efficient, with a capacity of up to 76 passengers, making them well-suited for Papua New Guinea’s unique operating environment.
